On this day in history legendary British rocker Rod Stewart was officially knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for his services to music and charity.

After more than five decades of chart-topping hits, sold-out world tours and unmistakable raspy vocals, the former Faces frontman became Sir Rod Stewart a fitting honour for one of Britain’s most enduring rock icons.

Stewart said:

“I've led a wonderful life and have had a tremendous career thanks to the generous support of the great British public. This monumental honour has topped it off and I couldn't ask for anything more.”

From the swagger of Maggie May and Da Ya Think I’m Sexy? to stadium anthems and timeless ballads, Rod helped define the sound and style of British rock ‘n’ roll. Beyond music, he was also recognised for decades of charitable work supporting children’s charities, cancer causes and military veterans.

Long before the knighthood, Rod Stewart was tearing through the clubs and back streets of London alongside some of the wildest names in rock history and his story remains woven into the fabric of London's music scene.
