Freddie was was honoured the only way rock knows how loud, proud, and unforgettable 🎤🔥

On this day in Music History 20th April 2016

On this day in music history just five months after the world lost Freddie Mercury the surviving members of Queen took to the stage at Wembley Stadium for a tribute that would go down as one of the greatest concerts in history.

The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert wasn’t just a gig it was a global moment.72,000 tickets… gone in just three hours. A worldwide audience of nearly ONE BILLION people across 76 countries… all tuning in to celebrate a true icon.

And the lineup? Absolutely legendary.

We’re talking performances from giants like Elton John, David Bowie, George Michael, Phil Collins, and Metallica all stepping up to honour Freddie in a night packed with emotion, power, and pure rock energy.

But this wasn’t just about music.

The concert also launched the Mercury Phoenix Trust, turning grief into action and raising vital funds and awareness for AIDS research — a cause forever linked to Freddie’s legacy.

It was more than a tribute it was a passing of the torch, a celebration of life, and a reminder of the unifying power of music.
