On this day 27 November 1970

On this day in history, George Harrison released All Things Must Pass the majestic, era-defining triple LP that cemented his emergence as a solo artist after the Beatles’ break-up. Co-produced with the legendary Phil Spector, the album showcased an extraordinary line-up of collaborators, including Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Klaus Voormann, and fellow Beatle Ringo Starr.

Many of the songs were long gestating Harrison compositions, now given room to bloom. The album explores themes of spiritual growth, personal liberation, and the shifting relationships that shaped Harrison’s life including his years with the Beatles.

Anchored by timeless tracks such as “My Sweet Lord,” “What Is Life,” and the luminous title track, All Things Must Pass shot to No. 1 around the world, dominating the US and UK charts and earning a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year. Today, it stands as one of the most influential releases of the 1970s and has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Walk in the footsteps of music history on my Rock & Roll Tour of Soho, where we explore the neighbourhood’s legendary venues, stories, and soundtracks. We’ll even stop at the very recording studio where George Harrison laid down “My Sweet Lord.”
