On this day 3rd November 1957

On this day in history Jerry Lee Lewis’ “Great Balls of Fire” was released by Sun Records. The single sold over one million copies in just ten days. Rock ’n’ Roll pioneer Jerry Lee Lewis recorded his explosive hit capturing the raw energy and rebellious spirit of the era, the song became one of the defining anthems of early rock music.

With its pounding piano, wild vocals, and daring lyrics, Lewis pushed boundaries and shocked conservative audiences all while solidifying his status as one of the genre’s most electrifying performers. The track went on to sell over five million copies worldwide and remains one of the most iconic rock ’n’ roll records of all time.

Join me on my Rock & Roll tour of Soho to visit the theatre where in the May of 1958 Jerry Lee Lewis was to perform before his UK tour was cancelled due to scandalous publicity over his underage marriage to Myra Brown who was only 13 years of age. Due to the scandal the "Rank" chain of theatres cancelled his tour dates and the fact that numerous hotels encouraged him to seek lodgings elsewhere, Jerry Lee Lewis left the UK in disgrace.
