On this day 29 December 1966

On this day in history 1966, The Jimi Hendrix Experience made their debut on BBC’s Top Of The Pops, performing their breakthrough single “Hey Joe.” The appearance introduced millions of UK viewers to Hendrix’s revolutionary guitar style, flamboyant stage presence, and unmistakable sound.
At the time, “Hey Joe” was climbing the UK charts and would soon reach No.6, helping establish Hendrix—an American newcomer in London—as one of the most exciting new artists on the British scene. Backed by Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell, Hendrix looked and sounded unlike anyone else on British television.
Want to stand where the story really unfolded? Join me on my Rock & Roll Tour of Soho, where we pass by the legendary Bag O’ Nails Club one of Hendrix’s favourite haunts and a key meeting place for London’s music elite. It was here that Jimi played his first offical UK gig and mixed with The Beatles, Stones, and fellow musicians while helping turn Soho into the beating heart of the 1960s rock revolution.
