On This Day in history Ozzy & Kelly Osbourne Hit No.1 with “Changes”
Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne achieved an unexpected and touching milestone when their duet “Changes” reached No.1 on the UK Singles Chart. The song is a reimagined version of “Changes,” originally sung by Ozzy on Black Sabbath’s 1972 album Volume I a reflective ballad about loss, regret, and personal transformation.
The 2003 remake came at a time when the Osbourne family were household names thanks to their hit reality TV show, The Osbournes. Their chaotic, funny, and surprisingly heartfelt family dynamic had captured the nation’s imagination and “Changes” became the unexpected musical extension of that.
Kelly, who was launching her own pop career at the time, joined her father in the studio to create a more modern, orchestrated version of the classic track. Their voices Ozzy’s weary and weathered, Kelly’s youthful and clear blended to give the song a new emotional resonance.
The single shot to No.1, making Ozzy and Kelly the first father–daughter duo to top the UK charts since Frank and Nancy Sinatra’s “Somethin’ Stupid” in 1967. For Ozzy, it was also a rare UK chart-topping moment outside his heavy metal legacy.
