The Day The The Beatles Began to Break Apart

On this day in Music History 10 April 1970

On this day in history Paul McCartney publicly revealed he was leaving The Beatles, stating: “I have no future plans to record or appear with The Beatles again, or to write any music with John.”

It was the announcement that sent shockwaves around the world. Fans were stunned. One of the most influential bands in music history was effectively over.

Just a week later, McCartney stepped into a new chapter with his debut solo album, "McCartney" a raw, self-made record that marked the beginning of his post-Beatles journey.

But behind the scenes, the cracks had already formed…

John Lennon had actually left months earlier in late 1969, keeping it quiet for business reasons. And when asked about Paul’s announcement? Lennon didn’t hold back:

“Paul hasn’t left. I sacked him.”

A band that changed everything ending in tension, ego, and truth finally coming to light.
