✨ "Thunder only happens when it’s raining…" 🎶

On this day in music history, 24th March 1977

On this day in music history Fleetwood Mac released Dreams the haunting, timeless track that would become their only US No.1 single. Taken from the legendary album Rumours, the song helped define an era and remains one of the most iconic recordings in rock history.

Written by Stevie Nicks, Dreams was created in remarkably quick fashion reportedly in just 10 minutes at the Record Plant in California. While the rest of the band were working in another studio room, Nicks sat at a Fender Rhodes piano and sketched out what would become a masterpiece, proof that sometimes the simplest ideas carry the deepest emotion.

But behind the smooth, atmospheric sound was a band in turmoil. During the making of Rumours, relationships within Fleetwood Mac were falling apart, breakups, affairs, and tensions ran high. Dreams itself was written by Nicks about her split from Lindsey Buckingham, giving the track its reflective, almost mystical tone.

Despite the internal chaos, Rumours went on to become one of the best-selling albums of all time, and Dreams remains its emotional centrepiece an enduring anthem of love, loss, and resilience that still resonates nearly 50 years later.

🎤 Love stories, heartbreak, and rock legends…They’re all part of the journey on my Rock & Roll Walking Tour of Soho. From iconic album releases to the personal dramas behind the music, we bring these incredible stories to life in the very streets where music history was made.
